WING LEADER is a two-player game of tactical air combat in World War II in which the players control squadrons and flights of 4-12 aircraft. The game presents the air battles in a unique side view in which forces manoeuvre vertically and end-to-end along the path of an air raid. Interceptors must gain height, exploit the Sun and cloud for advantage, and mass or divide their formations to stop the enemy. If you fail, the enemy bombers will smash their targets below.
The rules model command and control, aerial dogfights and the bombing of surface targets. Experte pilots and special weapons also feature.
The Wing Leader system comprises two core game sets:
Wing Leader: Victories 1940-1942 features 40 aircraft of the early war and 23 exciting scenarios that range from the Battle of Britain to Malta, North Africa, China, the Coral Sea, Midway and Stalingrad. A second edition of Victories is now available to pre-order (see news below).
Wing Leader: Supremacy 1943-1945 features 48 aircraft of the late war and 23 scenarios that range from jet battles over Germany, to heavy bomber raids on Japan, to the Southwest Pacific and the Eastern Front.
With small, introductory scenarios to ease players into the action, Wing Leader takes you into the heart of the Second World War's great air battles.
Wing Leader: Victories and Wing Leader: Supremacy are published by GMT Games and the system is designed by Lee Brimmicombe-Wood. Cover art by Antonis Karidis.
Expansion sets add more aircraft, scenarios and even campaign games to the Wing Leader system.
The first expansion, Wing Leader: Blitz, features 16 new aircraft of the early war, 10 exciting scenarios and a full-featured campaign, Drive on Kiev, set during Operation Barbarossa.
The second expansion, Wing Leader: Eagles, features 23 new aircraft of the late war, 18 thrilling scenarios and a full-featured campaign, Fortress Rabaul, set in the Pacific. This expansion is in development and is available for pre-order.
